Each year, weāre thrilled to highlight the outstanding team that makes Siloam Springs School District so special. Each week, weāll feature one of our staff members in the āSILOAM SPOTLIGHT,ā sharing the unique ways they help us fulfill our mission of serving students. Be on the lookout for these weekly highlights ā itās going to be an incredible year, and youāll see exactly why!
"When Tommy joined the Social Studies Department last year, he brought so much to our team. His experience as a classroom educator for on-level and advanced placement, a coach, and an athletic director has been invaluable for growing our department professionally and communally. One thing to note about Tommy Roy is that he is a man with a story for everything ā seriously. Everything. When youāre around Tommy, you can expect to hear at least one story each day about football (especially during football season) or a story that starts with, āYa know, this reminds me of a time whenā,ā and itāll be a story you wouldāve never expected to hear. Some of his best stories are about a time when he was either hiking, fishing, or hunting ā or doing all of the above ā and something went terribly wrong somehow. Other times, there are stories he tells about his family where he āgets to brag on them,ā and those are the moments where you see him beam with pride. Get him talking about his wife, his daughter, his son, or his grandchildren, and youāll see the elusive āTommy-Roy-smileā. But what I personally enjoy the most about any of Tommyās stories is how they typically end with āand thatās when I learnedā¦,ā ā everything is a learning moment for him, and he shares those learning moments through the most unpredictable stories. His embodiment of being a ālifelong learnerā and a phenomenal storyteller is just one reason Tommy is invaluable to our team and why I am so grateful he made his way to Siloam Springs." - Anna Bearden, SSHS Social Studies Teacher
"Itās been great having Tommy on board here in the Social Studies department. We like to enjoy conversations when we get a chance about history, fishing and sports. I donāt just think of him as a colleague, I consider him a friend." - Scott Wright, SSHS Social Studies Teacher
"Tommy is a huge asset to the social studies department and Siloam Springs High School. He is passionate about what he does, and develops great relationships with students. He is highly respected by both peers and students. His wealth of knowledge and experiences both in and out of the classroom are vital to his success as an educator. It is a privilege to work with someone like Tommy. He always has a positive attitude and outlook, and focuses on what is best for kids and their success!" - Dan Urban, SSHS Social Studies Teacher
"Tommy has been a huge help to my development as a teacher and a great resource for history. He has also been a joy to be around with stories about history, outdoors, and sports. So many students have stopped by his class saying hello or telling him how happy they were to pass their AP exam, which illustrates one of many ways he has a large impact on students. I am very thankful for him being in our department and having him as a friend." āNicolaj Kejser, SSHS Social Studies Teacher
"Duane has been an absolute rock star, especially with all the challenges we've faced this year. He's been working tirelessly, often single-handedly, to keep our school running smoothly and looking its best. He takes immense pride in his work, and it shows. The front of our school always looks immaculate, creating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere for our students, parents, and community members. Beyond his amazing work, Duane is a cherished part of our school family. He has a wonderful rapport with both our students and staff, always greeting everyone with a friendly smile." - Crason Cleveland, Assistant Principal
"At our school, heroes don't always wear capes! They carry keys, mops, and the biggest hearts! Duane is our everyday superhero, making everything shine brighter. Heās always ready to lend a hand, not only keeping our school spotless but also safe, welcoming, and filled with a spirit of care that inspires us all." - Tisa Sanders, Admin Assistant
"Duane is always so eager to help. I know that if I need anything done at all, he will find a solution to help me in that moment. We love Duane!" -Macey Miller, PE
"Mr. Duane is the best! He is kind and funny. Be careful, though; he is quite the prankster. Mr. Duane shows support for teachers. Every morning, he unlocks our doors and turns on our lights for us. It is a small gesture that makes us feel seen and taken care of. Every school needs a Mr. Duane!" - Mandy Thompson, 3rd Grade Teacher
