In honor of National Counselor Appreciation Week, we were excited to celebrate and spoil our MSA counselor, Mr. Joel Young! He was surprised with a heartfelt poster filled with student signatures, along with treats and goodies from our Paws & Claws school and Bright Futures. When you find a great one, you make sure they feel all the love. Thank you, Joel, for being a constant, caring presence for our students—you truly are a gem! 💎

During advisory today, Social Studies teacher Kevin Scarberough led us through a Holocaust Remembrance exercise. He spoke about the movie Truth and Treason, and then students and staff were given the opportunity to place a thumbprint on a memorial poster.

In a week-long laboratory investigation into the properties of water, Biology students demonstrated and explained capillary action and its importance to living organisms. They also got to explore future careers like chromatography, forensics, and healthcare. #SSMA #Limitless

We're back, baby! 🥳 School will be in session tomorrow, Friday, January 30, with limited rural bus routes. Our Transportation Department will contact families on affected routes directly. We can’t wait to see your smiling faces tomorrow, Panther Nation!

However, we ask that you consider the back roads where many of our students live, which remain icy and unsafe. At this time, we cannot safely send buses on those roads. On a snow day, some staff members have a huge tech setup while others cast their phones to the TV and call it good while we work from home. Our food choices range from popcorn to fast food to leftovers to fancy dishes, while our clothing choices range from normal to comfy. Some of us have our alarms turned off (everyone was on time for the staff meeting!), while others have pets that do not understand that we might be able to sleep in. That leads us to the question... what do you do on a snow day?

We are trying to keep things lively with our "No School" posts. 😅 There will be no school tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, due to inclement winter weather. No angry elves over here, though! Transportation Director Mr. Avery is all smiles 😉—and we’re sure many of our students are, too! Sledding, snow ice cream, hot chocolate, TV time....bring it on snowmageddon!

Wednesday afternoons are a special time as MSA students travel to Northside to mentor younger students. Today was a free play day in the gym, and as you can see, the students (all of them) had a great time!

Since today is Friday, we decided to observe an MSA tradition and play a game of Empires to end our day. While Ms Michele served as our game leader, students and staff (even Officer Brown) wrote down their secret names and they were placed in the orange bucket. In the end, Ms Apryl was the big winner as her Empire ruled the school.

Heads up, parents ‼️Long 3-day weekend ahead. Our schools will be closed on Monday, January 19th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Heads up ❗As the new year progresses, we want to remind families that flu season is ramping up. We highly encourage parents to please do daily checks, and if your child has a fever, keep them home so we can limit the spread. Thank you!

While you’re on break, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the public library’s upcoming January events! Whether your child loves video games or prefers hands-on board games, the library has something fun for everyone (grades 7th - 12th).

🎄 Holiday Break Reminder 🎄As we head into the festive season, we want to remind our families that Christmas Break begins December 22 and continues through January 6. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 7.

Please note that all school and district offices will be closed from December 22–January 2. Offices will reopen on Monday, January 5.
